source site Just as balanced food is important for a baby’s growth and physical development, so is sleep.Every mom face trouble while making the kiddos sleep, so did I. Here are the few tips that I followed (or am following) that are helping my little one to catch up on his sleep.
http://welovethegirls.com/tag/model/ Newborns usually sleep around the clock and a sleep-wake cycle goes hand in hand with the need to be fed. They don’t understand the difference of day and night but they do express their need to sleep in different ways like cry or rub their eyes or fuss. However, as rightly said, patience is the key word in motherhood. It took me days to understand this need of my baby, but I finally did.
I tried to get my baby sleep on a particular time especially at nights. I know it is a difficult aspect but following it religiously helped me.
I tried to encourage more of night sleep as I was being selfish to grab some sleep myself (without any guilt). For this, I used to make the room sleep friendly with dim light and mosquito free (I made a mistake of using a mosquito net first for the complete bed and I count it as a mistake as I had to move out so many times in case the baby has soiled the diaper) I got patches which are safe for babies.
I always make sure that the night suits for my baby are comfortable, not making the baby too hot or too cold. During winters, I make him wear fleece clothing as he mostly refuses to take a blanket. (Good for me as I had a fear of him choking on it
I follow this for the first six months as (again being a selfish mum …with no guilt) it gave me plus my baby a few hours of ‘no disturbance’ sleep.
Before it is the time to sleep, I give a gentle massage to my little one with a baby lotion (and not oil as I never gave a warm water bath at night to my baby). This has helped him in calming down to sleep and he has always loved it, just as I love the spa!
Noise free environment
For a disturbance free sleep, I suppress the outside noises of vehicles and people chit chatting with the help of a fan. I make sure that he is not placed right under it.
As he started to crawl I shifted my baby and myself from a king size bed to a mattress on the floor. This assured me that my little one would not break his sleep and hurt himself while falling off the bed.
I always make bedtime fun for him by washing his face, hands and feet with warm water, changing his clothes after lotion, massage, and reading a storybook to him which he is allowed to choose from his little library. I put him to bed when he is sleepy and not asleep. This has helped him to learn to sleep independently and not by rocking or any swinging to soothe him to a peaceful sleep. There is always a lullaby (but in my own note)…

Oh and then there are days when all the tips go in vain and all the baby wants is to hug you tight and sleep. I give easily for such situations too as I love to hug my baby and sleep along …
